Our school values are 'Believe, Aspire, Achieve, Respect', and part of this ethos involves the Academy and its students striving for success at every opportunity. We are proud to show that these efforts have been recognised not only on a local, but also a national scale over the last few years - here are some examples of the awards we have won along the way.
In July 2022 we were delighted to be honoured with the Secondary School of the Year Award at the prestigious MEN Schools Awards, which covers the whole of Greater Manchester. This fantastic achievement was one of two wins at the event, with our Attendance Officer Mr Farquhar picking up Support Staff of the Year. Ms Higgins was a finalist for Teacher of the Year, while our School Council were finalists for High School Team of the Year!

In 2022, we were shortlisted for the national TES (Times Educational Supplement) Schools Awards 'Secondary School of the Year' category for the third time. Read all about it on our website here.
We also achieved this honour in 2019, after becoming the first school in Stockport to reach the finals back in 2017.
We are proud to be consistently recognised for our high standards at the North-West regional Educate Awards.
Most recently, our Performing Arts Department were runners up in the Outstanding Arts category in 2022.
In November 2021, our Head of Art Ms Stirling deservedly won Teacher of the Year at the Educate Awards. It was an eventful night, with the Academy up for four prizes in total. Our Student Eco Team were runners up in the Outstanding Commitment to the Environment category, while we were also finalists for Leadership Team of the Year and Support Staff of the Year. Our Performing Arts Department was shortlisted for the national Music and Drama Education Awards 2023 in the Outstanding School Drama category. The winner will be announced February 2023
Our school achieved the Silver Rights Respecting Schools Award in 2022, and we are continuing to work towards the Gold Award. We have been teaming up with Cale Green Primary School as part of this, with students sharing ideas and spending time together as both schools look to achieve the full award in the future.
We have been awarded the BIG (Bullying Intervention Group) Anti-Bullying Award for the fifth year running and are the only school in Stockport to hold this. Read all about our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and the anti-bullying work throughout the school here.
As a school, we are proud to have received this award in recognition of our excellent standard of care provided to our students and their families during the Covid-19 lockdown that began in March 2020. This is a national award, and you can read all about what we did to achieve it here.
In 2014, Stockport Academy students Holly Battrick, Emily Riley and Elisha Boycott claimed first prize in the Show Racism the Red Card School Competition. The students created a poster which was awarded the first prize in Year 7-9 artwork category of this national competition.
In 2015, Rebecca Little was awarded third prize in the same category for her poster, titled 'A world with colour is a lot less duller!' Rebecca accepted her prize at Anfield football ground in Liverpool at a special ceremony.
In 2018, we were proud to win the SRTRC artwork category with Year 9 student Evie Griffiths' exceptional entry. Click here to see it for yourself. Evie then won the competition for an unprecedented second year in a row in 2019.
Evie then went on to win the competition for a staggering THIRD time in 2020 - you can read all about this phenomenal achievement and dedcation to an Education with Character on the news pages of our website.
In 2020 we were absolutely delighted to find out that two of our Year 11 students finished first and second in this national Art competition, which was judged by members of the public across social media, Art teachers and headteachers from around the country and professional artists. We achieved the Inspiring IAG Award, which recognises the high quality of provision Stockport Academy offers for careers advice and guidance, for the first time in 2016.
In 2020, we were reassessed for the Inspiring IAG Award and retained the top grading once more. Click here to read all about our Careers offering for students.
In 2019 we received the Silver Award for two categories in the Pearson National Teaching Awards.
Stockport Academy was recognised in the Secondary School of the Year - Making A Difference category, while Mr McCarron received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Following on from this tremendous success, the Stockport Academy website was named as the School Website of the Year just 12 months later, highlighting the high regard the school is held in across Greater Manchester.
In 2019, we were shortlisted for the Secondary School of the Year, reaching the final three in this category across Greater Manchester.
This whole-school award focuses on ensuring effective practice and provision is in place that promotes the emotional wellbeing and mental health of both staff and pupils.
The award has a focus on changing the long-term culture of a school, and embedding an ethos where mental health is regarded as the responsibility of all.
As part of the Type 1 diabetes: Make the grade campaign, this exciting award recognises the schools that are making sure children and young people with Type 1 diabetes get the most out of their time at school.
Stockport Academy is the first school in Stockport to be recognised by Leeds Beckett University with the Gold Standard for our provision around mental health and the work we do to raise awareness of this in school.

The Sainsbury's School Games Gold Award marks the fantastic work our PE staff have put into the PE programme during the academic year - covering not just time spent during the school day but also through after-school enrichment activities.
We were awarded this badge in recognition of our excellent student council and the impact of student voice within the academy. Judges commented they were 'thrilled' to see the council involved in 'such inspiring and worthwhile activities' and were 'impressed' with the 'commitment and passion that school councillors dedicated themselves to their amazing projects'.

Over the last four years we have been delighted to have had a number of successful Diana awards both for individuals and for groups of students. We have also been selected by the Diana Trust to be one of its showcase schools for practices to tackle bullying.

Stockport Academy was presented with the British Youth Council's National Discovering Democracy Award by local MP Ann Coffey in 2016. The school was judged to deserve this prestigious honour based on our focus on raising social and political awareness among students, in particular through the work carried out by our Student Council.
Stockport Academy was the only school in the country to receive the Gold Award for the Young Carers in Schools (YCiS) Programme in 2015.
Organised by the Carers' Trust, YCiS assesses schools on the support they offer young carers, as well as the training on offer to staff in identifying them and meeting their needs.
